MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - A cat trapped for three miles in a car engine is recovering after receiving more than 100 stitches at a veterinary hospital in Manchester, New Hampshire.
The cat, named “Tommy” by Manchester Animal Shelter volunteers, suffered severe third-degree burns last weekend. Several people attempted to pull him out after the driver heard the animal screaming.
Three firefighters were able to free him; he was wedged in between a strut and the hot metal of the engine.
Tommy underwent 90 minutes of surgery at the Veterinary Emergency Clinic of Manchester.
No one has come forward to claim the cat, who now is under the care of the shelter. Tommy is about 3 or 4 years old and is declawed and neutered, suggesting he was someone’s pet.
