ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Orlando police say officers shot a man who apparently has a long history of violent and mental illness after the attacked them with a baseball bat.

The man was taken to an Orlando hospital late Thursday and his condition was not available.

According to police, someone called 911 after seeing a man acting suspiciously in an Orlando neighborhood. The officers arrived and one used a stun gun on the man. The man only became more belligerent and continued to make aggressive moves toward the officers with the bat.

At that point, two officers fired their weapons.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating and the officers are on leave pending an investigation.
