CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Three people were taken to the hospital after wind gusts toppled a scaffolding at a hotel near uptown Charlotte.
Officials say workers were putting up a temporary wall in front of what will be a new hotel on South McDowell Street Friday when winds clocked at up to 40 mph blew over the scaffolding.
Rescue personnel say one of the three workers had potentially life-threatening injuries.
The high winds also knocked over tents and sent trash barrels rolling at the city’s Speed Street festival, held in conjunction with this weekend’s NASCAR race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. No injuries were reported.
