NEW YORK (AP) - Twenty-three music acts ranging from ’80s rock to ragtime xylophone have been chosen to perform in New York City subway stations.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced the latest additions to its Music Under New York Program on Friday.

The performers were chosen from 60 acts that auditioned on May 13.

A panel of musicians and transit officials judged the performers based on quality, variety and appropriateness for the mass transit environment.

No permit is required to perform underground but the MTA allots prime station spots to its chosen musical acts.

The new subway performers include a traditional Chinese ensemble, a gypsy trio, a bebop and jazz quartet and a Moroccan Gnawa band.
