MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Anglers heading north for a long weekend of fishing may want to know the daily walleye bag limits will increase on hundreds of lakes in northern Wisconsin.
Department of Natural Resources fisheries director Ron Bruch says the limit for walleye will increase to five per day on 269 lakes, three per day on 171 lakes and two per day on seven lakes.
The DNR says the six Chippewa bands harvested more than 27,000 walleye as of Thursday. The new bag limits go into effect Friday. The DNR’s fishing regulations are on its website. It also has a free mobile app.
The six bands of Wisconsin Chippewa set annual harvest quotas for off-reservation lakes in the state’s ceded territory. The DNR adjusts its initial bag limits annually to reflect actual spring spearing harvests.
