COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A talk about best-selling author Pat Conroy’s papers is being offered at the University of South Carolina before the papers are archived.

The collection of hand-written manuscripts, letters, journals and photos was purchased by the library using a major donation from a South Carolina family.

The curator of the collection, Jessica Crouch, is presenting an informal overview of the display at noon Friday.

The collection includes 10,000 handwritten pages of Conroy’s 11 books, including “The Water is Wide,” “The Prince of Tides,” ’’The Lords of Discipline,” and “The Great Santini.”

The display is in the library’s Brittain Gallery, located in the Thomas Cooper Library on the Columbia campus.

It is expected to take about 18 months to process the archive for access by scholars and students.
