ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. (AP) - Students and teachers at a St. Louis Park school are remembering two fourth-graders killed in a landslide one year ago.
The Star Tribune (https://strib.mn/1k9nH4j ) reports 500 children and teachers watched at Peter Hobart Elementary School as four white balloons were released Thursday. Two of the balloons represented 10-year-old Mohamed Fofana and 9-year-old Haysem Sani, who were killed in a St. Paul landslide. The other two balloons were dedicated to two classmates who were injured.
The two boys were killed when a cliff fell on them at Lilydale Regional Park during a field trip.
Earlier, the school district and the city of St. Paul reached settlements with the families. Fofana’s family is using much of the money to build a school in Guinea. Sani’s family is using some of the money to build an orphanage in Ethiopia.
