KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A University of Tennessee report says students hoping to become members of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity were hazed despite already having been denied membership.

The report released to the Knoxville News Sentinel (https://bit.ly/1lXyeNP) as part of a public records request, says the aspiring members were subjected to paddling and having hot sauce poured onto their genitalia.

According to the report, the abuse came to light when a mother complained on March 17. But both the chapter president and adviser told school officials the fraternity was not eligible to take new members.

Two days later, there was another complaint.

UT began investigating and, on April 14, shut down its chapter of the historically black fraternity.

Alpha Phi Alpha is the fourth fraternity to be kicked off campus in five semesters.
