LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The five most endangered historic places in Arkansas are scheduled to be named by a state preservation group.
The Historic Preservation Alliance of Arkansas plans to announce the properties Thursday in Little Rock.
The list highlights historically and architecturally significant properties throughout the state that are facing threats such as deterioration, neglect, insufficient funding and inappropriate development.
The alliance launched the endangered places list in 1999 to raise awareness of the importance of the state’s historic properties to its heritage.
Previously listed places include the Johnny Cash Boyhood Home in Dyess, the St. Joseph Orphanage in North Little Rock, the Packet House in Little Rock and the Bluff Shelter Archaeological Sites in northwest Arkansas, among others.
