LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - The Lafayette Housing Authority has settled a lawsuit by former Lafayette City-Parish Councilman Chris Williams for $30,000.
The Advertiser reports (https://bit.ly/1i8CtmV ) Williams, a former case manager for a special Disaster Housing Assistance Program managed by the LHA, sued the housing authority for alleged breach of contract and unpaid wages.
Williams contends he wasn’t given a 30-day written notice before being dismissed in 2010, so he sued.
The LHA denies any liability in the dispute. LHA spokeswoman Katie Anderson says the agency felt it would have prevailed in the suit, but the cost of fighting it outweighed the cost of settling.
According to records obtained by The Advertiser, the agency spent more than $46,000 with the Juneau David law firm of Lafayette to defend itself against the lawsuit.
