MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) - A metro Atlanta couple has been sentenced in a $1.3 million embezzlement scheme.

Cobb County District Attorney’s spokeswoman Kim Isaza says 45-year-old Angela Lynn Williamson and 47-year-old Scott Brian Williamson were each sentenced to 40 years. Isaza says Angela Williamson worked as the office manager for a Marietta-based company and changed bank account passwords without telling her employers.

The company’s CEO said she noticed discrepancies in 2011 when Williamson was out of town. The CEO says she had to use her children’s college funds and retirement savings to finance the business.

Prosecutors say Williamson pleaded guilty to embezzling from another employer in 1999. Williamson was given first offender status and the conviction didn’t appear on background checks.

The Williamsons’ sentences will be split between time in prison and probation.
