LILLINGTON, N.C. (AP) - A former Harnett County employee has been ordered to pay the county more than $5 million in a case involving missing documents and claims of corruption.
The Fayetteville Observer reported (https://bit.ly/1k7SSwE) that Superior Court Judge Douglas Sasser has ordered former Harnett County public utilities employee Randy Rogers to pay $5.2 million in damages.
The order says Rogers’ removal of private county documents, and his charges against the county created more than $1.7 million in damages. The award is tripled in a civil lawsuit.
Sasser dismissed Rogers’ counterclaim where he accused the county of suing improperly and refused to delay the case.
He’s been ordered to pay in 30 days but county officials expect Rogers to appeal.
He had accused several employees of favoritism and bid-rigging for several wastewater projects.
