BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - The fiancee of a New York Air National Guardsman severely injured in a shove down a bar staircase has been named his legal guardian.

A state judge in Buffalo Wednesday granted Erika Webster the right to act on behalf of 28-year-old William Sager Jr., who has been in a coma since May 11.

The manager of Molly’s Pub in Buffalo, Jeffrey Basil, has pleaded not guilty to pushing Sager down a flight of stairs in an incident that remains under investigation. Two off-duty Buffalo police officers who’d been working as outside security are suspended without pay while their actions are being reviewed.

Webster’s attorney has asked all evidence associated with the case be preserved for a possible civil lawsuit.

Basil was managing the bar, despite a felony record, under a waiver from the state.
