LAS VEGAS (AP) - A federal law enforcement oversight group is praising Las Vegas police for reducing officer-involved shootings and adopting use-of-force reforms based on a study begun in November 2012.
A report released Wednesday by the U.S. Justice Department’s office of Community Oriented Policing Services said the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has implemented 72 of 80 suggested reforms, and is working on five more.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported (https://bit.ly/1pgSrQP0 that COPS director Ronald Davis said his office has begun similar work with police in Philadelphia and San Diego.
Officials say the number of Las Vegas officer-involved shootings dropped to 24 in 2012 and 2013 combined, after a record 25 shootings in 2010.
Clark County Sheriff Doug Gillespie says he’s proud of the results and thankful for community patience.
