PHOENIX (AP) - Former Tempe Mayor Hugh Hallman has filed nominating signatures that will place him on the Republican primary ballot for state treasurer.

Hallman filed more than twice the required signatures needed to qualify for the ballot at the state Capitol on Thursday.

Hallman says he’s crisscrossed the state to gather support for his candidacy. He says he’ll work to create a truly balanced budget and promote fiscal responsibility.

Hallman is a native Arizonan who was Tempe mayor from 2005-2011 and was previously a city councilman.

Other Republicans who have filed candidacy papers but not yet made the ballot by turning in signature petitions include businessman Jeff Dewit and former Arizona Republican Party chair Randy Pullen.
