CARDIFF, Wales (AP) - Cardiff and Wales striker Craig Bellamy has announced his retirement from football, ending a 17-year career.

The 34-year-old Bellamy, who won 78 caps for Wales, said on Thursday his body “couldn’t take it any more.”

Born in Cardiff, Bellamy began his career at Norwich and also had spells at Celtic, Coventry, Newcastle, Blackburn, Liverpool, West Ham and Manchester City.

Bellamy made 22 appearances in the English Premier League this season as his hometown club was demoted.
