PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett wants the Arizona Citizens Clean Elections Commission to sign off on his request to appear in voter education ads.

Bennett says he wants to be sure he isn’t breaking any rules because he’s also running for governor as a publicly funded candidate.

The commission delayed considering the request at its meeting on Thursday to give its director time to review the actual ads.

Bennett says his office plans ads to urge voters to return mail-in ballots as soon as possible and to vote using that ballot. He wants to avoid a repeat of a major vote-counting delay like what happened in the 2012 general election.

The Arizona Advocacy network is urging the commission to reject the ads because they will clearly benefit Bennett’s campaign.
