CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Container volume increased again at the Port of Charleston during April, making it the busiest month on the docks since May 2008.
The board of the South Carolina Ports Authority was told Thursday that about 86,500 shipping containers passed through the port last month. That’s over 500 more than were handled during March, which had been the busiest month since August 2008.
The ports board also approved a $1.2 million contact for maintenance dredging at its Union Pier Terminal and about $900,000 for engineering for improvements at the Wando Terminal in Mount Pleasant.
It approved a $195,000 sale of surplus land in Beaufort and agreed to sell property in Charleston for $3 million to be used for an economic development project.
