ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - The city of Ann Arbor says its costs to repair damage to roads and water pipes following the severe winter are going up.
The Ann Arbor News reports (https://bit.ly/1k7ATGO ) City Council voted unanimously this week to pull $2.34 million from the cash reserves of the city’s street funds, plus $666,000 from the water fund balance. The money will address winter operational expenses and infrastructure damage.
Councilmember Jane Lumm says “there is serious sticker shock here, but there’s not much we can do about it.”
The city’s 2013-14 budget was based on a normal or average winter, but like communities across the state Ann Arbor saw more water main breaks than usual. Snow plows were out more than a typical Michigan winter. And roads are showing the effects of the weather.
