HARTFORD, Vt. (AP) - The town of Hartford is moving forward with plans to hire up to five new police officers who can help the Vermont community continue its fight against illegal drugs.
The Hartford Select Board gave officials the unofficial approval Tuesday to fill three already funded vacancies in the department and then hire two additional officers.
Town Manager Hunter Rieseberg says he could “easily” find the money to fund the positions.
The Valley News (https://bit.ly/1jUxExg ) reports that town officials hope that increasing the size of the police department will help them curb an escalating drug problem in Hartford.
Police officials say they are dealing with increasing numbers of heroin arrests.
