DALLAS (AP) - An environmental group has sued the EPA, saying the federal agency has failed to properly designate the severity of Dallas’ ozone problem.
The Dallas Morning News reports (https://bit.ly/1h96WkA) that the Sierra Club filed a lawsuit Tuesday against Gina McCarthy, the top administrator at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The lawsuit says the EPA is obligated under a 1997 federal standard to switch the Dallas area’s ozone violation status to “severe.” The region currently has a “serious” rating.
The Sierra Club argues that the law requires the region to be rated severe because it failed to reach federal air quality standards by last summer.
An ozone status of “severe” would trigger more stringent pollution controls.
