Naval patrollers from South Korean sent some warning gunshots across the water at North Korean military vessels that dared to cross the maritime border.
“Two patrol boats and one government ship from North Korea crossed the Northern Limit Line in the Yellow Sea … in succession,” Seoul’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement reported by NBC.
Seoul’s Joint Chiefs of Staff also said North Korea’s craft quickly retreated, Yonhap news agency reported.
North Korea’s military held live-fire drills in the same area, a site off the west coast of the peninsula at the Northern Line Limit, just a couple weeks ago. In March, North Korea also fired off hundreds of rounds into waters that reached the South Korean maritime border.
Part of the problem is Pyongyang doesn’t recognize the border line as legitimate.
