PHENIX CITY, Ala. (AP) - Phenix City’s council has voted to dismiss the city manager in the eastern Alabama community.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports (https://bit.ly/1j7gzAg) that City Manager Wallace Hunter was terminated Tuesday night with a 3-2 vote of the council.

Council member Gail Head made the motion to fire Hunter and it was seconded by Chris Blackshear. Head, Blackshear and Jim Cannon voted to fire Hunter. Mayor Eddie Lowe and Council member Arthur Day voted against the firing.

Hunter, reached late Tuesday, said he wasn’t surprised by the move, saying a couple of the council members had been working against him.

Hunter has worked for the city for more than 30 years in a variety of roles from fire chief to assistant city manager and city manager. He has been city manager since 2008.
