MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Former presidential candidate Mitt Romney has endorsed Republican Kay Ivey for a second term as lieutenant governor.
Ivey served as the Alabama chairwoman of Romney’s presidential campaigns in 2008 and 2012. Now Romney is backing her in the primary election June 3 against Kimberly minister Stan Cooke. Romney called Ivey a conservative leader who supports limited government.
The winner of the Republican primary faces former Democratic state Rep. James Fields of Cullman in the general election.
