ROYAL OAK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Michigan state Treasurer Kevin Clinton is recommending the appointment of a former auto executive as a consultant for Royal Oak Township as part of the Oakland County community’s program to deal with its budget problems.
Gov. Rick Snyder confirmed in March that a financial emergency exists in the impoverished community of 2,400, just north of Detroit.
Clinton said Wednesday that his nomination of Robert Burgess goes before the Royal Oak Township Board for approval Thursday evening.
Burgess is an ex-supply chain director for General Motors’ powertrain unit. He’s also advised Detroit and Hamtramck in their financial emergencies.
Royal Oak Township chose a consent agreement as its preferred method for dealing with the financial emergency. The deal requires local officials to submit monthly financial reports to the Treasury Department.
