NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The 7th Annual Louisiana Seafood Cook-Off will be on Saturday and pits 10 chefs from top Louisiana restaurants competing for the coveted “King of Louisiana Seafood” title.
Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne and the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board are hosting the event, which is part of the New Orleans Wine and Food Experience.
Dardenne says seafood and the talented chefs who cook it play a major role in attracting tourists.
Chefs competing are: Ryan Andre of Le Creole Baton Rouge; Scott McCue, Cypress Bayou Casino Hotel, Charenton; Scott Varnedoe, Restaurant IP, Baton Rouge; David Gotter, GG’s Dine-O-Rama, New Orleans; David Dickensauge, Bin 77, Baton Rouge; Anthony Scanio, Emeril’s Delmonico, New Orleans; Chris Montero, cafe b, Metairie; Chip Flanagan, Ralph’s on the Park, New Orleans; Nick Oskoian, Nonna, Monroe; Aaron Burgau, Patois, New Orleans.
The winner will represent the state at the marketing board’s 11th annual Great American Seafood Cook-Off Aug. 4 in New Orleans. Organizers said it’s the nation’s most prestigious seafood competition and features chefs from throughout the country.
The 2011 Louisiana Seafood Cook-Off winner Cory Bahr, chef and owner of Cotton in Monroe, will serve as master of ceremonies for the event. Judges include New Orleans chef Susan Spicer; Susan Ford, president and publisher of Louisiana Kitchen & Culture magazine; Beverly Stephen, executive editor of Food Arts magazine and Gaye Sandoz, director of the LSU AgCenter Food Incubator.
