GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) - Brandon Gold hit a two-run single in the eighth inning to help Georgia Tech rally past top-seeded Miami 6-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament.

The ninth-seeded Yellow Jackets (34-24) had to beat Wake Forest in Tuesday’s elimination round to reach pool play and trailed 3-1 against the Hurricanes (40-16) Wednesday. But they scored two runs in the seventh to tie it, then added an insurance run in the ninth on Matt Gonzalez’s RBI single.

Ryan Peurifoy went 4-for-4 for the Yellow Jackets, while Josh Heddinger (4-4) took the win by allowing three runs on seven hits in seven innings.

Dale Carey had three hits for Miami, which had won 27 of 30 and owned the No. 1 seed for the first time since winning the 2008 title.

Reliever Cooper Hammond (5-1) took the loss.

Georgia Tech faces fourth-seeded Duke on Thursday in Pool A, while Miami faces fifth-seeded Clemson.
