HOLYOKE, Mass. (AP) - A Holyoke city councilor is calling for signs urging civility to be placed at all youth ball fields in the city after a 22-year-old woman allegedly punched a 14-year-old girl in the face during a children’s baseball game.
Police say the woman will be summoned to court to face an assault and battery charge in connection with the incident Monday. Her name was not made public.
The alleged attack has prompted Councilor James Leahy to renew efforts to place the signs calling for civility and sportsmanship at all Holyoke youth fields.
The signs were approved last year and one was placed at one field.
They read: “Please remember: These are just kids; This is a game; Coaches are volunteers; Umpires are human; You do not play for the Red Sox.”
