ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Two New Mexico men accused of aiming a laser pointer at an Albuquerque police helicopter last year have pleaded not guilty in the case.
Prosecutors say 22-year-old Michael James Saavedra of Albuquerque and 23-year-old Dylan James Demone of Rio Rancho were arraigned Wednesday and then released pending their trials.
The men were indicted earlier this month of unlawfully and knowingly aiming the beam of a laser pointer at police helicopter that was in flight last Aug. 21.
If convicted, prosecutors say Saavedra and Demone would each face a prison sentence of up to five years.
