CORALVILLE, Iowa (AP) - A 130-year-old building in an eastern Iowa city is getting a new address.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports (https://icp-c.com/1k5Cc9h ) workers began relocating Coralville’s historic Old Town Hall on Tuesday to a new home down the street. The process is expected to continue Wednesday.

The building’s relocation allows space for the development of more than 100 condominiums and 40 townhomes, along with commercial areas. The development is part of larger city plans to improve flood protection efforts and revamp the area.

Coralville assistant city administrator Ellen Habel says the move allows the city to hold on to a piece of the city’s history.

The 19th-century building has housed churches, a library, a jail and the city’s municipal operations. Habel says the city hasn’t yet determined how the building will be repurposed.
