CLEVELAND (AP) - A judge has sentenced a Cleveland woman to 10 years in prison after she ran over and killed a passenger who had been thrown from her vehicle.
Shamanique (shohm-uh-NEEK’) Bryant pleaded guilty last month to aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated vehicular assault, DUI and failure to stop after an accident.
The 28-year-old Bryant was sentenced Tuesday in Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH’-guh) County Common Pleas Court. Bryant’s attorney said his client worked as a nurse and tried to help people.
Prosecutors say the incident began outside a bar in suburban Cleveland in December, where Bryant’s brother was shot and wounded. Bryant, her brother and Mattie Stubbs then got into Bryant’s car. Bryant struck another vehicle, tossing her brother and Stubbs from her car. Bryant returned to the accident scene and ran over Stubbs.
