SUNNYVALE, Calif. (AP) - Walmart plans to hire hundreds of tech workers as it expands its Global eCommerce unit in Silicon Valley.

The Oakland Tribune reported Monday (https://bit.ly/1sP7bGZ ) that the retail giant has struck a deal to lease over 100,000 square feet at a new property in Sunnyvale, the city that’s home to internet giant Yahoo.

Walmart spokesman Bao Nguyen tells the newspaper that the Sunnyvale operation, which currently has about 550 employees, could be expanded to about a thousand workers.

Nguyen says Walmart’s digital operations in Sunnyvale and nearby San Bruno are helping build the company’s video-on-demand service and its mobile shopping services.
