DETROIT (AP) - The federal government is seeking $168,700 in penalties against the employer of a Detroit dock worker who was killed last year when he was hit by a forklift carrying a 20-ton coil of steel.
The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration said Tuesday that it has cited Nicholson Terminal & Dock Co. for nine safety violations, two of them willful.
Agency spokeswoman Rhonda Burke declines to identify the man, but TV stations WDIV and WXYZ say he was 62 years old.
The man was killed Nov. 19, 2013, while working for Nicholson Terminal & Dock Co. at the Port of Detroit.
The Associated Press left phone and email messages with the company Tuesday seeking comment. It can pay or contest the penalties.
