LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The University of Arkansas System’s Board of Trustees is to consider tuition and fee increases ranging from 3.5 to 6 percent at UA’s four-year colleges.
UA officials say the increases would be used in part for faculty salaries and efforts to improve retention and graduation rates. UA System President Donald Bobbitt told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (https://bit.ly/1mRQzyv) that the increase is necessary because of rising utility costs and not enough state funding.
Tuition and fees at the Fayetteville campus would rise from $7,818 to $8,209 per year. The University of Arkansas at Fort Smith and UA-Little Rock would both see costs rise more than $300 per year; UA-Monticello’s increase would be nearly $300; and UA-Pine Bluff costs would rise about $200.
The board is to meet Wednesday and Thursday in Hope.
