TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - The deadline for airlines interested in providing air service to Tupelo and other cities currently being served by Silver Airways has been extended two weeks.
The Daily Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1j3URgx ) the original deadline for bids was Monday, but the U.S. Department of Transportation extended the deadline to June 2. The department gave no reason for the extension.
Last month, the department ordered Silver to continue service to five markets, including Tupelo, after the airline announced in early April its intent to end service in the communities. The other affected cities are Muscle Shoals, Alabama; and in Mississippi, Greenville, Meridian and Laurel/Hattiesburg.
