Sarah Palin, former Alaska governor and vice presidential contender, sent out a series of scathing and sarcastic lines on her Facebook page in response to the mainstream media’s condemnation of Karl Rove for daring to discuss former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s health.
As Mrs. Palin put it: Nobody backed off of me during my political pursuits. Why should they back off Mrs. Clinton?
Mrs. Palin’s Facebook posts were put in context of responding to a Wall Street Journal article that discussed the brewing controversy — the one where notable GOP strategist Mr. Rove suggested that Mrs. Clinton may have suffered a long-lasting health issue when she fainted and fell in 2012, and was subsequently treated for a blood clot between her brain and skull.
Some — like former vice president Dick Cheney, who was scrutinized in the press for his heart troubles — say that a president’s health is always a natural interest for voters. Others, however, say that Mrs. Clinton hasn’t even announced a run for the White House, and that Mr. Rove’s remarks are premature and overly aggressive.
And Mrs. Palin? She says, in mocking tone: “Hey! Hillary’s brain is off-limits! Leave her health records alone! Democrats are right — scouring records of a female candidate is just politics of personal destruction and for the media to engage in it would be unfair, unethical and absolutely UNPRECEDENTED. You can’t probe a woman like that because, well, it’s a war on women!”
She then went on to take jabs at the media’s claim to fair and unbiased.
“Thank goodness liberals are consistent in refusing to apply double standards, thanks to their disdain for hypocrisy — so they’ll come through once again! … See, the country’s just swell under the Obama regime,” Mrs. Palin wrote. “With enormous issues to debate before choosing a Presidential/Vice Presidential ticket, have confidence no mean-spirited salaciousness will be pushed by ’real journalists.’ “
Mrs. Palin then included a link to an article that highlighted how President Obama gave kudos to a journalist who has famously accused Trig Palin — Mrs. Palin’s son — of actually being the birth child of Bristol Palin, Mrs. Palin’s daughter.
Mrs. Palin then wraps her Facebook post: “Nope. This just doesn’t happen at this respectable level of American politics. Just ask me. And Trig.”
