HONOLULU (AP) - The Center for Disease Control is threatening to suspend the University of Hawaii medical school’s ability to conduct research on highly contagious diseases.
Hawaii News Now (https://bit.ly/1h4wRdh ) reports a recent CDC inspection uncovered 30 safety infractions at the school.
The agency says the university failed to implement a number of new safety regulations that the CDC began requiring a year ago.
UH officials say they are addressing the CDC’s concerns and that they plan to formally respond by next Monday’s deadline.
State Sen. Sam Slom says there are 30 specific demands that must be met in a week, but he doesn’t know if the university is capable of meeting them.
The Hawaii Kai Republican says there’s a lack of management and leadership. He says it has to be changed.
