PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Phillies president David Montgomery had surgery Monday to remove cancer from his right jaw bone.
The team said Tuesday that Montgomery is expected to remain at Thomas Jefferson hospital for another week and will recover at home before returning to work.
A statement released by the team called the surgery “significant” and said Montgomery was advised the success rate is “very high” and complications aren’t expected.
Montgomery has been a part-owner of the Phillies since 1981. He turns 68 next month.
