NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) - North Las Vegas firefighters are dousing a recycling yard after a fire sent heavy clouds of smoke over the area.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1jPlbLg ) that the Fire Department arrived at 333 W. Gowan Road around 5:45 p.m. Monday. Department spokesman Cedric Williams says all the workers at the center were evacuated and no one was injured.

Williams says about 80 firefighters from three departments worked to control the fire at the Republic Services plant. The newspaper reports that Republic Services accepts flammable materials such as paint thinner, fertilizer, gasoline and automobile oil.

Williams says the fire was not near hazardous materials. He says most of what burned was cardboard and plastic.
