ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - An interchange on Interstate 85 in Anderson County has been named for the late state Sen. Ed Garrison.

Anderson’s widow and the couple’s adult children gathered for the ceremony near I-85 and U.S. 76 on Monday, the Anderson Independent Mail (https://bit.ly/1oMxXSH) reported.

Garrison died last June. He served in the South Carolina House from 1959 to 1966 and in the Senate from 1967 to 1988.

Anderson Rep. Don Bowen says Garrison worked tirelessly for the community.

Garrison was more than a politician, said Tri-County Technical College President Ronnie Booth.

“I cannot think of a higher honor that we could give T. Ed Garrison than to recognize him publicly for who he was as a man and who he was as a family man and who he was in terms of his faith and church,” Booth said.

Anderson also was a deacon at Welcome Baptist Church.
