BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Idaho Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter, Sen. Russ Fulcher and other Republican party candidates will learn soon which side of the fractured GOP has won the support of voters.
The two-term Otter is challenged by tea party favorite Fulcher and two long-shot perennial candidates in Tuesday’s gubernatorial primary. Other Republican incumbents in statewide seats are also being challenged by candidates supported by tea party factions: Lt. Gov. Brad Little faces Jim Chmelik and State Controller Brandon Woolf faces Todd Hatfield.
The GOP primary is often considered the most competitive leg of the election because Republican candidates rarely face a strong Democratic challenger in November.
