JOHANNESBURG (AP) - Ryan Giggs might be asked to publicly assess his new boss’s performance when serving as a World Cup analyst on a South African cable TV channel next month.
The SuperSport network says Giggs, who was appointed Manchester United assistant manager on Monday, will be its star studio pundit during the tournament in Brazil. Incoming United manager Louis van Gaal will be coaching the Netherlands before taking over at Old Trafford next season.
SuperSport announced Giggs as a member of its World Cup team on Tuesday, saying “we have contracted a world class player for a world class event.”
Giggs retired after 23 years as a player at United. The Welshman won 13 league titles and two Champions League titles but never played at the World Cup.
