MONACO (AP) - Monaco dismissed Italian coach Claudio Ranieri on Tuesday despite a runner-up finish in the French league this season.

Monaco vice president Vadim Vasilyev told a news conference, “We made the decision to split.”

Under Ranieri, Monaco gained promotion last summer and qualified for the Champions League this season.

“It was a difficult decision. It’s never an obvious decision when the results are very good,” Vasilyev said. “We’re looking for an attack-minded coach who can bring a beautiful show to the supporters.”

The club hasn’t announced a replacement yet.
