TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida Gov. Rick Scott is promising to spend more money on the state’s deepwater ports if he wins a second term.

Scott is visiting three Florida ports this week where he will announce plans to spend $1 billion on ports and port-related projects during his eight years in office. Scott plans to visit ports in Tampa, Jacksonville and Port Canaveral.

This marks the first time Scott has outlined what he plans to do if he wins re-election in November. The incumbent Republican is in a tough re-election battle and is trailing in some polls.

Scott pushed for increased spending on ports during his first term. He is promising to direct more money to help with projects at ports that serve both the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.
