PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The father of Rhode Island gubernatorial candidate Gina Raimondo has died.
A campaign spokesman says 87-year-old Joseph Raimondo died Friday at Kent Hospital in Warwick.
The spokesman did not know the cause of death.
His daughter says her father worked his entire life to make sure his family was loved and supported. She calls him a wonderful grandfather who was always there for his six grandchildren.
Joe Raimondo was a chemist and metallurgist and worked at the Bulova Watch Co. for 26 years.
Raimondo frequently invokes her father’s life on the campaign trail, speaking about his work and his experience of losing his job when Bulova closed its factory and moved overseas.
She says she, her mother, Josephine, and her brother and sister will continue to honor his memory.
