NOGALES, Ariz. (AP) - Federal authorities say a Chandler man is accused of trying to smuggle 2 ½ pounds of heroin into southern Arizona by hiding packages of the drug under his shirt.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers stopped 22-year-old Saul Beltran at the Morley pedestrian crossing in Nogales on Monday.

Officers say they found three packages of heroin wrapped around Beltran’s stomach and groin.

Authorities say the heroin is valued at about $36,000.

They say the heroin was seized and Beltran was referred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
