VIENNA (AP) - The Austrian football federation says David Alaba has been ruled out for four weeks with a stomach muscle injury and will miss the national team’s upcoming friendlies against Iceland and the Czech Republic.
The Bayern Munich defender hurt his muscle in training Friday and sat out next day’s German Cup final against Borussia Dortmund, which Bayern won 2-0 in extra time.
Austria coach Marcel Koller has added Duesseldorf midfielder Michael Liendl as a replacement. It’s the first call-up for the 28-year-old Liendl, who has played 22 matches for national youth teams.
Austria plays Iceland in Innsbruck on May 30 and the Czech Republic in Olomouc four days later. All three teams failed to qualify for the World Cup in Brazil.
