TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - AAA Mid-Atlantic says roughly 944,000 New Jersey residents will travel 50 miles or more for the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend.
That’s a slight increase from the 938,500 residents who traveled last year. The holiday travel period is defined as Thursday through Monday.
AAA Mid-Atlantic says most New Jersey travelers - about 845,000 - will travel by automobile, so it’s urging drivers to be patient and allow extra travel time. It also says drivers will likely see lower gas prices over the holiday, citing rising supplies.
Improved weather and better economic factors are driving the expectation for more holiday travelers. Consumer spending, disposable income, consumer confidence and the employment outlook are trending up.
Nationally, AAA projects 36.1 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more from home for Memorial Day.
