INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Gov. Mike Pence says the Indiana Department of Health is working to track the first case of an American infected with a mysterious Middle East virus who was admitted to a northwest Indiana hospital.
Pence said Friday the Health Department is working to assess the risk to the public and to prevent the spread of the virus. Pence is encouraging those who may have been exposed to the virus to report symptoms to their medical provider.
The state Health Department says the man took a bus from Chicago to Indiana last Sunday and began experiencing symptoms. He was admitted to Community Hospital in Munster on Monday. The Health Department says individuals who visited the emergency department of the hospital between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Monday should watch for symptoms.
