BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A contractor who worked on a large Buffalo construction project has pleaded guilty to violating federal clean air laws by mishandling asbestos.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Rai Johnson of Buffalo is the sixth person to plead guilty following an asbestos abatement project at the vacant Kensington Towers housing projects in 2009 and 2010.

Johnson was a supervisor at Johnson Contracting when authorities say he and other workers dropped asbestos through holes cut in the floors and failed to adequately wet down asbestos during removal.

Johnson pleaded guilty on Thursday and faces up to five years in prison and a fine of $250,000 when he’s sentenced in August.
